Post Creating a War Driving Map
Hello,

KISMAC is awesome, I finally got my GPS working and the map function is awesome. thanks...

I am trying to get Kismac to create a heat map style report ontop of the map. I only ever get sold dots where the access points are detected. But I would like some kind of strength indicator as well. I would like to know where the signal is week and where it is strong.

Here is a webpage with an example...

I tried using the Show Net Area function and Show All Net Area, but every time I do, it crashes my kismac.

please help, thanks, michael

Unfortunately, the two or three people best able to answer the details of the mapping functionality are rarely around any more. I'll tell you what I know, though, in hopes that maybe it will help a little.

I have only ever seen KisMAC locate each BSSID as a unique, single point on a map. The basic operation of picking that precise spot is covered in the FAQ (and perhaps the in-app help documentation). I have never tried the Show Net Area functions; perhaps after a little more testing to find where it used to work (if ever) and such a ticket should be opened. If you do this please be sure to clearly include all required details, including plain text attachments of logs.

I haven't tried it yet, but I understand that Kismet can do this though I'm not sure what the status of actual mapping is. If only I had more time to play with such things....
