Post What happened to my IVs?
I had a MacBook w/ Airport Extreme then quickly realized that that wasn't going to work for actually cracking anything. I bought a Linksys USB WUSB54GC, went almost nuts last night trying to get drivers installed on the mac. Built Kismac from source w/ the USB drivers version and ran it and magically I was getting IVs all over the place.

I woke up in the morning and had 150k IVs on the highest signal/data network. And yet, I come home from work and I'm still stuck at 150k. The data packets aren't going up either, but the normal packets are flying up, about 10 a second. Some other networks are getting IVs but very slowly. Any thoughts? Is it just that the guy isn't home?

Also, is there any way to get IVs into one of the columns in the main view?

Thanks.

well good sir, I'm afraid that what you are doing may be illegal since you didn't state that it was your AP...But i will help you because I don't think you are a malicious hacker... There is no defined amount of IVs to crack WEP. It can take a lot of IVs if you're unlucky. Just keep scanning and try again. I really hope this is on your own network....

oh, and also read the FAQ!!! very important...
I hope you will enjoy learning the wonders of Kismac and network security..
good day to you. 8)

Post Re: What happened to my IVs?
Indeed, it's my own AP, I'm just wondering why I was getting so many IVs and then out of nowhere they just stopped. Any thoughts? Is it possible my drivers are not working as well as it seems they are? I am very suspicious of that, considering what I had to go through to get it working at all. I'm not actually sure it'll even connect to a network.

And FWIW, I've read the FAQ many, many times to even get this far :D
Thanks for the help.

alright. good to know. I believe that there might not be enough traffic on your network. You can test to see if that is the issue. Using your airport, connect to your AP and watch a movie on youtube or something...if the IV's go up, then you'll know that is the issue. If no Iv's are generated, then it could be a configuration problem...If that's the case, I will try my best to helpp you, since we both have the same dongle ;) (except now I also have a hawking that owns the other dongle really hard)

When you're not moving data across the network, there are no data packets and thus no IVs to be had. APs send out about 10 beacon packets per second.

Well, if it's really your network, you already know the answer. Don't be cracking other people's networks without their express permission: it's not legal.

As for adding IVs to the main view, have a look in the Patches forum.
